DON'T DO THIS!

Wait until the hacked firmware comes out, and then you'll be able to do this, plus run homebrew.

don't update! joystiq, wtf?

I'm pretty sure this blogpost was to point out the stupidity of themes, or at least, the one's available atm.

I would wait for the custom firmware or buy a 2nd PSP for the new stuff. I'm picking up the PSP slim when it comes out and keeping my old one to run homebrew. On the site, they state that they'll are going to announce a theme editor in September and it will make modifying your own themes easy.

I don't think this is PSP 2000 only. I just upgraded my original PSP, and it has a custom theme option too now.

Why even use homebrew crap?

I update each time and buy my games. No reason not to.

check out www.pspupdates.com ... the homebrew out is really amazing, and there is no reason not to have the custom firmwares to run it.

Aside from voiding your warranty you mean? Yeah, no reason at all.

No, it isn't. A community of millions will always be able to produce software to fill a need or want that a community of 100 can't or won't.

I've never understood the reasoning behind homebrew. Sure you could save a few bucks a cup instead of going to a shop or store; but unless you know what you're doing you'll just make a mess and get hurt. Besides I hate drinking coffee all together anyway.

The four rings should be reunited to set you a mission. And you have to be loyal to Nintendo, Regie and Miyamoto.

Wait for Kye: he have the sacred parchment of the NDF.

The pink theme isnt half bad when you change the wallpaper, the icons are semi-transparent, so whatever wallpaper you have kinda changes the look of the icons.

this theme thing is pretty cool. more interested in the simultaneous slideshow and music dealy though. can't wait until they release more themes or an editor because these two do suck (even though im using the cookie XMB right now lol).

o and don't anyone try to talk to me about homebrew either. ive walked on both sides and homebrew really didnt have anything to offer me. dont really wanna pirate games since "I get money, money I got" and all the old games i loved so much in my childhood really arent as fun as i remembered them. i found a couple useful programs (file assistant was a very good program) but nothing to warrant me keeping my custom firmware. sorry if i upset neone lol.

These themes are horrible. The themes that the homebrew community are putting out are 100000x better. All you have to do is look at Applecor to see that http://img373.imageshack.us/img373/4743/screenshot003xm1.png. Plus, homebrew means psx games on psp :D. Just check out forums.qj.net, and then see some real themes.

Homebrew scene has created amazing stuff but most of the people run pirated games with CFWs. Respect developers for god sake. If you want more games to come on PSP buy your games otherwise everybody will do DS games and PSP will be dead in 1-2 years.

I hope more people understand this

"If you want more games to come on PSP buy your games otherwise everybody will do DS games and PSP will be dead in 1-2 years." quote from miisho post

lol ds games are just as easily downloaded as psp games and just as easy to run as running isos on psp and cfw has been around for awhile and the games on the psp just keep getting better kinda like the nds and the mod cartridge for it ;)
I like that sony is watching what the home brew scene is doing and adding the features that the homebrew devs are creating for the homebrew users. Now if they could just add a cbr reader. ( yah right)

I much prefer official software to the hacks, simply because I can use flash, or some low price discount PSP games collection (of which there are lots) if I want to play solitare or Galaga. The custom themes for official PSP is an AWESOME thing that I can't wait to be able to do.

I just need to buy a PSP Slim and upgrade it. :( I want the Daxter pack!

Sony may be slow, but they listen and eventually they'll find a way to have custom games on the PSP without any pirated ROMs or EBOOTS playable. If the hackers would just cut them some slack and stop putting sony down all the time and learn some patience. Nothing good in life is instantaneous, even childbirth takes at least 9 months.

*gets down off of soapbox*

Word.

Homebrews good and all, but I don't want to risk bricking you know?

Plus, pirated games hurt the industry.

The risk associated with bricking is not severe with the release of the pandora's battery/"MMS". I knew nothing about CFW the other day, even bricked my fat psp, and today I'm on CFW and enjoying psone games (games I own, FYI) on my PSP at no additional charge. Next I'll be trying to unload my UMDs to memory stick so I don't have to pick specific games from my library to take with me (normally I'd have to carry an additional case just for my UMDs). And supposedly I'll also be saving battery life by doing so, and experience quicker load times (from what I've read, haven't tried it yet). Sure, I spent several hours researching/googling, but I just made my PSP a whole lot more useful.
